My fear is the pharmacies figure if people start eating healthy then they lose money...so why not tell them they have a disorder and pump them full of meds. Then they still can have their income. Don't get me wrong, I agree there may be some that need help, but I am also worried about the ones that are just trying to learn or live a new healthy eating plan but are discouraged. I know I myself have been discouraged. Doctors convince you that you can't change your health by what you eat. That you need meds to lower cholesterol and such. Then your liver goes crazy and they tell you it's because of those meds but here are more to fix it.
When I found sites that encourages clean eating, I thought they were all crazy. Now that I know how good I can feel when I eat right and what we were intended to eat, I think I am crazy when I eat the other junk.
Ok…I love chocolate! I really do. I also have a tendency to have a sweet tooth. I thought could live off of sprites and junk. But when I eat unhealthy foods I feel horrible. I don’t mean just a guilty pleasure type horrible. I mean I ache all over, I feel swollen and just not good. I also think eating junk affects our mood.
When you eat unhealthy foods it affects your emotional self just as much as your physical being. While you’re eating the candy bar you might feel like… I really needed this”. You’re treating it like a comfort food. You’re actually eating it for emotion support. Our support should come from the creator who created the food not from the sugar that tickles our taste buds.
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
When you eat the unhealthy foods you later feel poorly physically. When you do not feel good physically that affects how you feel emotionally. Eating a diet of high processed foods, sugars and ingredients you find is a science lab pulls you down and makes you feel tired, stressed and all around lousy. These feelings lead to you being more impatient, easily annoyed, edgy and irritated. Who gets the brunt of your impatience? Your husband, family, friends and children. Then your back to feeling worse because you know you should have been in a better mood.
When I talk about clean eating I want to clarify what that means. Clean eating is hard to find in a box. So much of our food comes in a box full of ingredients and chemicals that we don’t even know how to pronounce. Our taste buds don’t remember what real food taste like. I am talking about food that is as close to its natural state as can be.
A few years ago I found a website that said they went 100 days of real food. I found a couple of raw food sites where they only ate raw food. I thought there was no way I could eat like this. I couldn’t imagine not using salt, sugar and dips to fix all my vegetables and fruits. I can remember growing we would put salt on apples, watermelon and cantaloupe. I used Thousand Island as a dip in order to eat celery, carrots and other veggies. If your strawberries were tart you could just put sugar over them and leave them for a bit and they would be sweet as ever.
I am not saying that I never use sugar or salt. I do. Just not like I used to. I am now conscious of how much of it I use. I try to use as little as possible. I still go for the occasional pizza with my husband or ice cream with the kids, but now it is a rare occasion and not the norm. We find fun things to do now like pick strawberries, blueberries or apples. I also do not judge others on how they eat. I am not a food/health/nutrition guru. I am just a mom trying to feed her family and feel good about the food choices I make.
When eating clean, real and whole foods, you feel better physically which in turn helps your emotional well-being. You don’t feel as tired and irritated. You also have energy! I know as a mom and wife having energy is important.
